The perfect Generations Gears that never was.
By Hyoumaru on June 23, 2019
Mechanic Studios' Rocke is possibly the most ideal G1 cartoon representation of Autobot Gears to exist to this date. The figure is a literal refinement of the original 1987 toy and pulls it off wonderfully. The Transformation into truck mode is a Generations-style update of the original toy's engineering, and comes together seamlessly.

Being Gears, the figure is for lack of a better word, extremely blocky. While design-wise, this works to his favor, it also doesn't leave him with the biggest range of articulation, though he does have plenty of swivels and joints for a figure of his size. The only major joint he lacks is a waist swivel, which makes sense due to the transformation.

Quality-wise, he's not quite perfect. Mechanic Studios, and its parent company Mech Fans Toys, have always been known for their sharp-cornered plastic, as opposed to the beveled molding seen in most figures today. Though this is of no real consequence to the figure itself, it can be annoying when handling it. The figure's hands also do not use the 5mm peg system, thus limiting its weapon usage strictly to the two weapons it comes packaged with. The painted pistol it comes with is also prone to getting stuck once inserted in the hand, so be careful when applying it.

The figure also comes with a diaclone mech suit. This cannot truly interact with Rocke in any way, but it's a nice bonus to have.

Overall, Rocke will likely not blow you away, but for CHUG Collectors, he is THE essential Legends-sized Gears. Definitely recommended.
