6 upcoming Generations toys we're excited to see!

COUNTDOWN: 6 upcoming Generations toys we’re excited to see!

Transformers Age of the Primes has firmly picked up the baton from its predecessor line, Legacy, in delivering a real showcase of random robots belonging to all different parts of the franchise’s history in updated Generations style.

Whether you’re a fan of old-school G1 or many of the more modern iterations, there’s been something for everyone so far, and that looks set to continue into the future with some very intriguing characters apparently on the horizon if the ever-present rumour mill is to be believed. With that in mind, here are 6 Generations toys we’re (hopefully) excited to see before too long!

#6: Sureshot

When the classic 1987 Autobot Targetmaster Crosshairs made his updated Generations debut during WFC Siege back in 2020, it was surely a sign that his Nebulon-wielding buddies would shortly follow suit, right? Well, five years on, and we’re at least now two-thirds of the way there, thanks to Legacy Pointblank eventually being released in 2022, but thus far, we’ve seen no sure sign of final team member Sureshot. Supposedly, that is finally set to change, should the latest rumours be believed, which will be especially welcome given it’ll be the first take on this character in toy form in almost forty years!

#5: Quickstrike

Of the remaining 1990s Beast Wars cartoon characters left to be given a modern Generations makeover, Quickstrike has featured on our wishlists at least once before, and for good reason. For starters, he’s a memorably rootin’ tootin’ evil-doer with a mean attitude and an absurd accent to boot, so relegating him to a one-and-done appearance in toy form since his 1998 debut is a crime. Secondly, check out that weird and wonderful design – not many Transformers can boast a snake head for the one hand and a pair of scorpion legs for the other. In fact, Quickstrike is the *only* one who can claim such a thing, which is why it’s good news he’s apparently set to receive a new toy before too long. Tarnation!

#4: Animated Ratchet

Not that we’d ever condone it, but laying good money on this version of Ratchet being a shoo-in for a Generations debut never felt like the biggest gamble in the world. After all, with the rest of his Animated Autobot crew already having received the treatment, his omission was all too glaring, especially with this doc enjoying a definite fan-fave reputation. Allegedly, he’s set to soon join the ranks of Optimus, Bumblebee, Prowl and Bulkhead (assuming you count him as an Animated take!) in being brought back for a new toy, which will be his first in at least fifteen years! Not that he’d be pleased about it.

#3: Combaticons

Yeah, this one isn’t really a big secret, given Vortex is already here, and we’ve seen some luscious combined form artwork of the big bad battlin’ Bruticus besides. Yet it’s still exciting to see more of the Combaticons, not least because we don’t really know how the whole big man mode will come together beyond an artist’s impression, but also because these are some highly memorable characters with exceptionally fun designs. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we can assemble the whole team!

#2: Big Convoy

Check any fan wishlist for the Generations line, and odds are, you’ll find this guy somewhere on there. Yes, despite his mammoth (eh?) popularity and his having one of *the* Convoy-coded designs of all time, Neo’s chief beast remains nowhere to be seen outside of his 1999 debut and a smattering of reissues and recolours over the years since. If the rumours are true, then that’s set to change, which is sure to be welcome news for all despite the vintage design still packing a considerable punch even by modern standards. That said, it will be fascinating to see how updated toy engineering enhances the alternate mode, so we’re certainly excited to see what they come up with!

#1: Liege Maximo

Again, this one is not really ‘news’ because we’ve known for some time that Liege Maximo is on the way as part of the thirteen Primes focus making up the current line. Yet still, it’s compelling to consider the very idea of this awe-inspiring monstrosity finally making his (proper) toy debut after first appearing in a somewhat defunct final-page tease at the end of the Generation 2 comic in 1994. Sure, he’s had varying interpretations in other media since, but still, that page lives rent-free in the brains of anyone who was there to witness it at the time. No doubt, the design on offer promises to be something truly bizarre as it’s translated into toy form, but whatever the result, we cannot wait to see how this one turns out. The day of reckoning will finally come!

So that’s our list! Which of these potential toys are you most excited about?
