COUNTDOWN: 10 more Robosen x Transformers ideas for the future! – The Source Report

COUNTDOWN: 10 more Robosen x Transformers ideas for the future!

Consumer robotics manufacturer Robosen has recently made a splash with their self-transforming Optimus Prime and they’re set to do it again soon with a new product tying into the upcoming Rise of the Beasts!

This movie-styled version of the heroic Autobot leader may not transform, but it promises to include a slew of interactive features sure to delight fans of the big-screen action. Let’s hope we get more details very soon!

Meanwhile, we have also seen a new take on G1 Bumblebee on display, and there have been some leaked images of a Robosen G1 Grimlock doing the rounds, too, so there’s a lot to be excited about. All of that leads us to speculate which other Transformers characters might be next for the treatment… let’s look at some possible candidates!

Then, when you’re done, be sure to check out our new Triple Takeover chat on Robosen for much more than meets the ear…

#10: Optimus Primal (Rise of the Beasts)

If Robosen is getting in on the Rise of the Beasts action, then it stands to reason Optimus Prime may not be the only option they consider. Amongst the list of characters from the film, it seems possible that chief Maximal Optimus Primal might be a strong contender, perhaps even for a transforming effort in a surprise twist! Imagine such a thing contorting between gorilla and robot forms, all whilst shouting out phrases from the film voiced by Ron Perlman. It would be bananas.

STOCK PHRASES: Purely for nostalgia’s sake, it would have to be able to say, “Well, that’s just prime“, indeed!

#9: Bumblebee (Rise of the Beasts)

As the second most recognisable character in the franchise (at least these days), where Optimus Prime goes, you can usually expect Bumblebee to follow. If there are more Robosen x RotB products, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this one make the cut, even if it’s unlikely to be transformable.

STOCK PHRASES: Expect a lot of radio noise on this one!

#8: Cliffjumper

Turning our attention to some G1 names, Cliffjumper might be one Robosen could consider if they ever look to fill out a more extensive roster. After all, we know they’re doing a (non-transformable) Bumblebee, so this should be a relatively easy retool, even if we’ve seen no evidence of the company adopting such a strategy thus far. Sadly, there’s no opportunity to bring the late Casey Kasem in for the task (assuming he would have even wanted to work on the franchise again!), but still, this would be fun to see.

STOCK PHRASES: CJ has some fantastic dialogue from the 1980s cartoon, but you can’t go wrong with “The oldest tricks only work on the biggest jerks.”

#7: Dinobots

OK, so we know Grimlock is happening. That’s a massive tick already. Now, imagine up to four more gigantic robotic dinosaurs tromping and stomping around your living room. Sure, it sounds like the kind of expense most of us can only dream of, but giant robot dinosaurs are never not wanted.

STOCK PHRASES: So much to choose from, but surely we’d all like a Robosen Slag (/Slug) that shouts, “Beryllium baloney!”

#6: Soundwave

If you asked me what is a) one of the more likely candidates for a future Robosen effort and b) one of the designs with the most potential to be unique or interesting, then there is one ultimate candidate: Soundwave. Not only is his robot form about as iconic as they come, but a transformable version doesn’t feel like it should be too impossible, either. Then, just think about how much fun you could have if it played music in some fashion. Bonus points if it works with ’80s cassette tapes somehow!

STOCK PHRASES: Soundwave superior!” Because he is.

#5: Sideswipe

Honestly, this entry is more representative of a whole suite of Autobot cars that could be suggested for some Robosen love, but given Sideswipe often seems to be one of the go-to names for any new endeavour, he seemed like a good frontman. It’s fair to assume such efforts might follow suit with Bumblebee and be non-transformable, but still, we can’t help but dream about some sweet interactive Lambo’ lovin’.

STOCK PHRASES: In Sideswipe’s case, how about his G1 toy tech spec quote? “I don’t break the rules…I bend them. A lot.

#4: Rodimus Prime

Optimus Prime will always be the most famous Autobot leader of the lot, but let’s not sell his successor short, either! Although it was tempted to throw Hot Rod on this list (especially in pink!), it would also be fascinating to see his souped-up form done justice too, even if the idea of a transformable Rodimus Prime complete with ‘space Winnebago’ mode seems a little far-fetched.

STOCK PHRASES: So many to choose from, but it has to be “Till all are one!“, doesn’t it?

#3: Shockwave

Suppose we’re looking for hugely recognisable original characters who would be firm fan favourites and have designs that feel like they could be within the realms of plausibility. In that case, Shockwave feels like a logical choice. Despite sporting a laser gun mode, this is one that even has the potential to be transformable somehow, and with original voice actor Corey Burton still in the biz, it has all the right ingredients to be a potential smash.

STOCK PHRASES: Again, Shockwave has so many memorable moments from the cartoon, but his movie line, “Decepticons, we’re under attack! Scramble!” would be hard to top.

#2: Nemesis Prime (or other OP repaints)

Given the original version’s price tag, some may squirm at the idea of alternate colour versions further down the line, but hey, it’s a Transformers staple, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if it happened! Optimus Prime has been done in black, blue, yellow, white, green and many other colours besides, so there’s tons of potential here. However, considering the idea never seems too far behind the traditional red and blues, perhaps a Nemesis take is most likely.

#1: Megatron

You knew it had to be, no? Where you have Optimus Prime, there must surely be Megatron. It’s a yin-yang thing. Surely there can be no better character choice to square off with the Robosen Autobot leader, especially if they can interact with one another. True, it’s highly likely to be a non-transformable effort (for obvious reasons), but get Frank Welker on board and let the trash talk commence!

STOCK PHRASES: Where do you start? Perhaps with “I would’ve waited an eternity for this. It’s over, Prime…

So that’s our list! Which characters would you most like to see happen?
