Another week, another round of rumours concerning which toys will soon be up for the Transformers Legacy treatment.
With the current robots in disguise line bringing back a varied and often unexpected list of names from the franchise’s history for a modern makeover, speculation is frequently rife about who or what will be next. Thanks to Jtprime17 from TFW2005, we may have at least some idea.
None of this is confirmed, so take it with a sizeable pinch of salt for now. That said, let’s dive in and see who’s on the list…
#9: G1 Gears

Gears has been rumoured to be getting a new Generations toy for a good few years now, especially after he popped up in some of the early WFC: Kingdom artwork. Thus far, he’s yet to materialise, but according to the latest rumour, that’s about to change, with a new Deluxe figure apparently on the horizon next year. If that’s true, one has to assume it will steer close to the character’s classic Generation 1 cartoon portrayal, as is typically the form for Legacy. However, it could be interesting if they approached it using his more unusual 1984 toy form instead! Either way, this grumpy guy could finally be about to land.

#8: G1 Sureshot

It’s been almost three years since Crosshairs was released as part of WFC Siege. With his Targetmaster comrade, Pointblank, already realised as part of Legacy just last year, it’s fair to say that excitement for a potential Sureshot figure to complete the gang has never been higher. If these rumours are to be believed, that could be exactly what’s about to happen, with a new Deluxe outing supposedly on the horizon. Like his predecessor, this yellow fellow will likely stick closer to his on-screen appearance from the American G1 cartoon’s 3-part swansong, The Rebirth, than the classic 1987 toy, but either way, no doubt a lot of fans will be happy to see him represented, alongside his Targetmaster partner, Spoilsport.

#7: Cyberverse Windblade

The character of Windblade has already clocked up an impressive number of toys since she was created through a series of popular fan votes around a decade ago, but there is still room for more! What’s interesting about this latest rumour is that the listing suggests it will be her portrayal from the Cyberverse cartoon that will be getting the Legacy treatment as a new Deluxe toy, meaning a slightly different look to her classic design. It’s weird to consider the idea of that series being handled in the Generations line, especially given there already is a separate Cyberverse assortment of toys (of which Windblade has two). Still, stranger things have happened, so let’s wait and see!

#6: Cyberverse Chromia

Alongside Windblade, another fearless Autobot from Cyberverse apparently soon to be re-realised in Legacy, is Chromia. In this case, the character has only ever had a small ‘Tiny Turbo Changer’ toy released as part of her native line, so no doubt many fans would welcome a full-size Deluxe overhaul, if indeed this rumour is to be believed. There was already a Chromia toy released in WFC: Siege, of course, but that was a representation of her from the corresponding Netflix cartoon, whereas presumably, this take would feature her stunning motorbike mode from the Cyberverse show. Again, this will be very intriguing to see if it happens!

#5: Animated Bumblebee

Any new Bumblebee toy shouldn’t be a surprise by this stage, given how he’s essentially become the franchise’s poster boy since his star turn in the 2007 live-action film. However, the potential cause for celebration here is the idea of another design from the popular Transformers: Animated cartoon being re-interpreted for a modern release, hot on the heels of his Autobot teammate, Prowl. There are also rumours circling of Optimus Prime and others doing the rounds, so this feels likely to happen at some point. Could a Deluxe figure in 2024 be on the cards?

#4: Energon Megatron

Unicron Trilogy fans were agog when it was confirmed we would be seeing robots from Transformers: Armada popping up as part of Legacy, with the rumour mill also churning out plenty of other names besides to whet our appetite for more. Well, here’s another one to add to the list, as the latest suggestion is that we’ll see a stab at Energon Megatron next year! Could this be confirmation of moving into the second part of the classic trilogy? The only slight oddity that has some furrowing their brow is that it will apparently be a Core class release, which is unlikely to be what anyone pictured when they imagined a makeover for the character. Tiny Megatron, anyone?

#3: Beast Wars II Tasmania Kid

Generations collectors were recently treated to a whole new line from the franchise’s history being represented, as Beast Wars II was given the nod with the release of L̶i̶o̶ ̶C̶o̶n̶v̶o̶y̶ Leo Prime. Well, that’s seemingly set to continue if the latest leak is accurate, as Legacy will soon feature a take on the mischievous Tasmania Kid! This upstart is one of Lio Convoy’s troupe in the classic 1998 cartoon and transforms into the unmistakable form of a Tasmanian devil. This would only be the second-ever toy of the character and the first for twenty-six years, so it’s pretty big news if true. This is supposedly set to be another Core class release, so let’s wait and see if it pans out.

#2: Rescue Bots Chase

Chase is on the case! Wait, no… wrong franchise. Still, this is one that younger audiences will potentially be familiar with, as it seems like Rescue Bots characters might be making it to the Generations line at long last, with a Deluxe Chase part of the recent rumours! Despite debuting in 2011, the squad have been kept surprisingly separate from the ‘main’ Transformers universe on the whole, which means that older kids and more general audiences may be slightly unaware of some of them. For my money, this is fantastic news if it’s true, as both the original cartoon and its follow-up, Rescue Bots Academy, are excellent and deserve more focus as part of the wider franchise. Could it be that we might see Legacy takes on Chase’s comrades, Heatwave, Boulder and Blades, too? Here’s hoping. Roll to the rescue!

#1: Rock Lords?!

OK, the first thing to mention is that we have no way of knowing if this rumour is indeed true, or if this is what is being referred to here… but the listings provided contain three references to ‘Rocks’, including Tra Gen Legacy UNI Core Rock 1, Tra Gen Legacy UNI DLX Rock 1 and Tra Gen Legacy UNI DLX Rock 2. That’s clearly very open to interpretation and might be a nod towards something completely different, but it has already caused massive speculation that we might be about to see a Transformers Legacy take on Rock Lords! For those not in the know, this was a 1986 series of toys which spun off from Tonka’s Gobots line, accompanied by an animated movie featuring the stone-cold characters the same year. And yes, they’re essentially Transformers that turn into, well… rocks! Funnily enough, Hasbro does own the rights to these characters, having assumed the GoBots brand when they acquired Tonka in 1991, so it is possible… I guess we will have to see if these classic designs are ready to (rock and) roll out soon!
So that’s our list! Are you excited about these latest rumours?
