COUNTDOWN: 15 3PMP projects to watch out for! (part 1) – The Source Report

COUNTDOWN: 15 3PMP projects to watch out for! (part 1)

Despite the occasional naysayer proclaiming otherwise, it doesn’t appear as though the unofficial ‘third party’ Transformers scene is going to slow down any time soon. If anything, there’s more product available right now than ever before and some amazing new projects on the horizon too!

So today, I’m counting down my top picks for some of the most exciting stuff currently in the pipeline, all ranked in order of just how much I’m looking forward to them! I’ve only chosen releases with a current pre-order available (otherwise FansToys and X-Transbots would be all over this…) that are set to be released during the next three months or so.

Let’s get on with the enablement!

#18: Maketoys Booster & Jetstream

Who is it? Ramjet & Thrust

Estimated release: March 2022… hmm

Alright, the first entry is a bit of a tactical one in some ways. Yes, I am looking forward to the two remaining Maketoys Coneheads, although a fair bit of that is because it’ll be a sure sign the company is still alive and kicking enough to be pumping out new moulds (or at least retooled ones), which might hopefully lead to more in the future (Headmasters, eh?)! As it stands, there’s no chance of these two suddenly dropping this month as scheduled, given we haven’t even seen colour photos of the final products yet (or an update of any kind in some time) but here’s hoping they land before too long.

#17: Deformation Space Sky & Thunder

Who is it? Skywarp & Thundercracker

Estimated release: March 2022

Picking up the 3PMP Seeker baton is Deformation Space, who already made a big splash after their Starscream only recently dropped, with many opting for it over the official MP-52 even. I must admit that figure has passed me by so far but no matter as it’s the repaints which are looking especially hawt to my eye! True, the classic black and purple Skywarp combo is enough to make any toy better but c’mon now, look at this lad. These would rank higher if the TakaraTomy versions weren’t near completion already.

#16: Transart Mighty Guardian

Who is it? Beast Wars ‘Optimal’ Optimus Primal

Estimated release: April 2022

Transart has had a good last year, with their takes on Transmetal Cheetor, Transmetal Optimus Primal and Ravage all hitting the mark in my book. So, when I first heard murmurs they were going to tackle Optimal Optimus I couldn’t have felt more excited to see how they approached the design. Admittedly, some of that has been muted a touch by the choice to downsize this release, as I definitely would have preferred to see it scale properly with their other figures (and the official Beast Wars Masterpiece toys). Still, at 9.4 inches tall, at least he’ll go nicely with MP-44, so that should be fun.

#15: Dr Wu Little Monster

Who is it? Movieverse Wheelie

Estimated release: June 2022

OK look, I get not everyone is going to be convinced about this. Let’s be fair, it being a design originating from Revenge of the Fallen isn’t exactly a feather in its cap as far as a lot of fans are concerned and *especially* this particular character, what with all his leg-humping escapades and all. But hey, I think it has lots of potential to be quite good fun at the same time, especially as I’ve already been won over by Dr Wu’s previous effort, Microscope. Someone has to do justice to these teeny tiny movie lads, after all.

#14: Alien Attack Gundog

Who is it? Movieverse Hound

Estimated release: August 2022

Speaking of movieverse designs, how’s this for a turn-up eh? I’ve been waiting on someone to do a 3PMP Age of Extinction Hound for some time and with Alien Attack currently pumping out the reveals, perhaps it’s no great surprise they landed the punch first. True, they have a bit of a mixed track record when it comes to the fit and finish of their releases but the design here looks solid at least, so I’m hopeful for it. How they didn’t choose ‘Fat Ballerina’ for the toy’s name though, I’ll never know.

#13: Deformation Space Blast & Ram

Who is it? Blaster & Ramhorn

Estimated release: April 2022

Having made a name for themselves with their Seeker design, it would appear Deformation Space isn’t wasting any time with cracking on. Their next project? Blaster, who rather bizarrely has only been attempted in MP-style once before (by KFC), so that alone is reason enough to be looking forward to this one. The design looks neat too, if perhaps a little basic in areas, so let’s see how it shapes up before release.

So that’s part 1! Be sure to check out part 2 next.
