Toy Review: Takara MP-20 Wheeljack

MP-20 Wheeljack title

The Autobot handyman gets the Masterpiece treatment!

Out of the box, Takara’ MP-20 Wheeljack comes in its alt. mode, which is a great rendition of the Lancias Stratus Turbo 5. The paint applications and insignias are so good that it’s one of the few Transformers toys I’d have no problem displaying in its alt. mode on a regular basis. It has storage options for both his shoulder canon (top) and blaster (underneath), but the most impressive part about it is that the area to store the shoulder canon actually depresses when the canon is placed and pops back up when it’s taken out to hide that there’s a hole there. It’s very well done.

The transformation on this piece is butter-smooth and satisfying. The robot mode is almost eerily accurate to the cartoon (as is the standard with the Masterpiece line in general) with lots of poseability and good balance while doing so. Even playing and posing it, you can tell that it’s an extremely well thought out piece. I love the inclusion of the anti-hypnosis device as well. It’s a great albeit small touch that shows Takara is really thinking about fans of the series itself.

The Takara team continues on its roll of homerun hits with the latest in their Masterpiece line! Now bring on Ultra Magnus!

Overall Score: 8.5/10
