All in all, this is a very nice piece, with good weight and proportions to the rest of the line, with a great degree of show-accuracy. There are a few little niggles however. His hands are too small and dainty- I agree with Lawrence on that. Also, the ground clearance in alt-mode/s is none-existent.
My biggest "problem" however is the face. Convoy's more emotive than this guy, who seems to have been sculpted with Edward Cullen in mind. There's no hint of the "turbo-revvin' punk" from the movie.
But, apart from a few minor complaints, my new favourite Masterpiece.

This is sad to say but this incarnation of Rodimus Prime IS THE WORST !The palstic will break easily, he can barely hold his guns, and the transformation is overly complicated.
All that aside it is still a good figure. But IT ISN'T WORTH THE PRICE THOUGH!so if you are desperate for this figure buy it but it will break!
MP-09 Masterpiece Hot Rod / Rodimus Prime

I completely agree with EdabanG's review. After reading the mixed reviews about the figure being light and fragile, I was fairly anxious about what I was going to find. Once I got Rodimus in hand, he was actually slightly heavier than I expected. I studied all the transformation reviews online carefully and took a LOT of time to "get to know" the figure's transformation, joints, etc. I would argue that the instructions are not detailed enough and could have cleared up a lot of confusion, especially with the feet (granted they are in Japanese and I don’t read Japanese…HA!). Once I figured it out, I found the transformation to be smooth. NOT difficult, fiddly, or frustrating at all. I can get him into any mode without fiddling in about 4 minutes or less (Masterpiece Megatron takes twice that with fiddling for me). Everything fits together tightly with no force required if you know where each part goes and in what order. All 4 wheels touch the ground every time with room to spare. EVERY MODE IS ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! Rodimus highly rewards those with patience! This is definitely one of the highlights of my collection and in my top 3 favorites, if not my favorite! This is not a "take it out of the box and get it right on the 1st try" Transformer. This is an intricate Transformer for fans who enjoy the puzzle process of transforming. Yes, he does have fragile spots that if transformed incorrectly or if you are not careful and try to force it, will probably break. I’ve had mine for 2 weeks transforming him several times a day at work and at home. I’ve had no stress marks or breakage. I did have to apply a little bit of glue to the posts of the guns for them to stay securely in his hands. They fit very securely now. Also, I took a fine-grain sandpaper (per Peaugh’s review on youtube) and sanded down the spoiler slot in the trailer. You would never know by looking at it and no paint ever came off sliding the spoiler in and out of the trailer. If you choose to do this, TAKE YOUR TIME and be careful as to not damage the trailer. When you treat Hot Rod / Rodimus right in prep, handling, and transformation, man is it ever rewarding! Amazing!
Ultimately, this is a model hobbyist’s Transformer, in my opinion. If your expectation is to take it out of the box, put it into car mode in 2 minutes, and race it all over your kitchen floor, I’d say MP-09 is not for you. If you like intricate Transformers featuring detailed transformations and want a highly-detailed, wicked-looking, anime-accurate Hot Rod show piece, then Roddy is DEFINITELY for you.
My new favorite Masterpiece

Up until yesterday, Masterpiece Grimlock MP08 was my favorite masterpiece figure. I received my Rodimus in the mail and immediately unboxed him. At first I was a little underwhelmed by the figure. Then I pulled him out of the plastic tray and held him in my hands. The level of detail is exceptional. The transformation is just a little less difficult than Megatron, but is much more satisfying. You must be very deliberate when following the instructions, and go slowly for the first few times. Hot Rod is a little fragile and some of the pieces can be broken if forced. When I purchase a masterpiece, I want it to be complicated and intricate. This guy is both!
This is an excellent addition to my Transformers display and I am happy to own him!
